How to Tell an Authentic Burberry from a Counterfeit

Most Burberry handbags are similar in material, pattern, and color. Unfortunately, there are many counterfeit Burberry bags out there. If you are a fan of Burberry handbags, you should be aware of how to tell if the bag you are thinking about purchasing is real or an imposter. However, educating yourself on the subtle differences will make a big difference when it comes to making a purchase.

There are three main areas to look at when trying to determine if the bag is authentic or not:

  • Material
  • Pattern
  • Miscellaneous Details

Authentic Burberry handbags are made from PVC, or vinyl coated canvas. It actually closely resembles leather but when you feel it, the texture is quite different. The two most common designs for these handbags are the Nova Check and the Classic Check. Both have a cream or tan background with vertical and horizontal black and pink or red stripes. The Classic Check also has an Equestrian Knight symbol where the stripes intersect. The stripes should not be crooked nor should they bleed into the background. Also, the entire design should be centered on the handbag itself, giving it a symmetrical look.

There are tiny, miscellaneous details of which a buyer should be aware. For example, the color of the inside tag should match the lining. Check the zipper to ensure that it says “Burberry” on both sides. The seams on the inside and outside of the bag should be neat and straight. Also, be sure to inspect the leather trim around the edges of the handbag. It should be straight with even stitching.

Contrary to popular belief, Burberry handbags are not exclusively made in Italy or England. Some are actually made in China, so do not let that deter you. Check all the other details to help determine if the item is an authentic Burberry product.

Burberry handbags are a great addition to any ensemble. However, making sure you have an authentic item can be a little tricky. Do your research and keep in mind the three main areas of concern: material, pattern, and miscellaneous details. If all of these details look good, then it is likely you have found a genuine Burberry handbag to add to your collection.
