Fendi Handbag Guide

The Baguette is Back: A Guide to Fendi Handbags

Headquartered in Italy, Fendi is a legendary fashion-house that makes leather goods, fragrances, sunglasses, and watches. The brand is most popular, though, for its baguette handbag. Last Spring, Fendi celebrated the 15th anniversary of its legendary handbag, and, to commemorate the purse that “Sex and City” made famous, the company began re-releasing the Fendi Baguette.

The Baguette is Back

The re-launch of the Fendi Baguette gave fashionable women the opportunity to customize their very own Baguette bag. That is, on the company’s official website, Fendi allows you to pick the materials and color of your “very own” Baguette, which you can then purchase.

Fendi has also collaborated with a number of popular creative minds to make special-edition Baguettes, too. Artists like Richard Prince, Francisco Vezzoli, Tom Sachs, and Michelangelo Pistoletto have used the Baguette as a canvas on which to display their unique visual talents.

The Baguette is a smart-looking, compact handbag with a prominent rounded shoulder loop that was made in response to the minimalist handbag designs popular in the 1990s. Besides the artist collaborations mentioned above, Fendi also released the Baguette with a faux-red fur exterior, a beaded exterior, as well as a fringed monochrome style.

Among the most interesting Baguettes available now is the Intarsio Baguette, distinguished by its geometrically-themed leather calfskin outer. More specifically, the Intarsio has a multi-colored pair of 3D squares stitched onto its front, complimented by black and grey rectangles bordering the purse’s flap. This flap hides the magnetic closure system Fendi has used to keep the Baguette secure.

Other Popular Fendi Handbags

Other authentic Fendi handbag styles include the 2Jours, a shopping bag made of super soft calfskin that is complimented by a leather hangtag zipper and shoulder strap. Another Fendi favorite is the Peekaboo, a calfskin leather tote handbag that has a removable shoulder strap and a turn-lock closure system. The Peekaboo’s inside is draped with suede and luxurious pony hair.

Another tote currently available in Fendi’s handbag collection is the Pequin, which is about the same size as the Peekaboo. The Pequin is different from the Peekaboo, however, in that its exterior is made of a jacquard fabric. This year’s Pequin features striped color-ways.

Where to Purchase Fendi Handbags?

Like so many other high-fashion purses, Fendi handbags can be purchased on the brand’s official website, or at many upscale retailers, like Barney’s. Women’s boutiques will also generally carry a number of different Fendi bags and fashion accessories.

If you plan to purchase a Fendi bag from an auction website like eBay, exercise caution before buying. Some of the handbags for auction on the website, or for sale on other fly-by-night stores on the Internet, are facsimile or replica handbags, and do not have the same quality and luxury of an authentic Fendi product.
